Land Acknowlegement

I would like to gratefully acknowledge and honour that the home where I live and operate my business is on the land which comprises the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations) as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations); and Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Mohkinstsis”, which is also known now as the City of Calgary.

As well, during my early life, I was raised and lived on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, which is also now known as the city of North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Both of these territories, as well as many more, are part of a land traditionally known as Turtle Island, which we now also refer to as Canada. As a descendant of colonizers, I recognize Canada's colonial past as well as the current and enduring impacts on Indigenous Nations and Peoples. I regard the path to reconciliation as a practice, rather than a single. destination, and I am committed to walking this path while continually learning and growing.
